When you arrive, you and your pet will be welcomed into one of our spacious exam rooms to meet your surgeon. Your pet will be thoroughly examined, and any necessary tests will be performed. We will present a treatment plan and an estimated cost, then schedule surgery or a follow-up as needed. Transparent communication with your surgeon is our priority, so feel free to ask any questions to ensure your comfort with the proposed plan.
To streamline your visit, please fill out our Patient Registration Form beforehand, bring any current medications, and ensure previous tests are sent to our facility.
Register your petWe strive to make the examination process as comfortable as possible for your pet. If they feel nervous, we can conduct the examination outside or in our treatment area and return them to you promptly. We will review recent diagnostic tests from your primary veterinarian and perform additional tests if necessary. We will always provide an estimate and obtain your consent first, ensuring a welcoming and stress-free experience.
For x-rays, we may recommend a sedative to reduce your pet’s stress and obtain high-quality images for accurate diagnosis. These sedatives are short-acting and reversible, so your pet will wake up quickly ready to return home with you.
If you decide to proceed with surgery, we will schedule it as soon as possible. Generally, surgery will not be performed on the same day as the consultation unless special arrangements are made.
On surgery day, do not feed your pet in the morning, only give them water. Simply bring them to the hospital, where they will be admitted and cared for by our compassionate team until their procedure. While we admit our pet patients early, that does not mean they will go into surgery immediately upon drop-off. Your pet will receive a preanesthetic examination, where blood work and imaging will be performed if needed. We will be in contact with you throughout the day, notifying you when the surgery is about to start. Your surgeon will contact you post-op to give you an update and discuss the surgery.
Read our surgery checklistWe understand that general anesthesia can be scary. At VROC, we take anesthesia very seriously. We use the most advanced agents and design a specific anesthesia protocol for each patient, based on their history and any underlying conditions. Your pet will be closely monitored throughout by an anesthetist using advanced equipment to ensure their safety.
Ensuring your pet’s comfort before, during, and after surgery is a priority at VROC. Every patient receives top-tier pain management, including injectable pain medication before surgery, a long-lasting local nerve block during surgery, and both injectable and oral pain medications after surgery. This comprehensive approach continues once your pet returns home, ensuring they remain comfortable throughout their recovery.
Your pet’s pick-up time will depend on their recovery and pain level. We strive to send pets home the same day, but if they need further monitoring, we may recommend an overnight stay with us or at a local emergency clinic. When you pick up your pet, we will go over all the home care instructions and medications so you are fully prepared.
We will contact you within 24 hours of bringing your pet home to check on their recovery and address any questions or concerns you may have. You will be given a direct line to your surgeon and our team for any questions throughout the recovery. Any follow-up appointments for rechecks and x-rays will be scheduled ahead of time by our customer support team.
